Bedroom Talk is an intermedia sound, performance, and video tableau that uses the syntax of Neo-Classical erotica to explore the relationship between courtship and isolation– or the alienating phenomena of desire. Staged in front of a static projection created from a crudely Photoshopped Venus, cupid, and stock boudoir image; the artist’s body assumes the role of a sculptural odalisque. With her back facing the viewer, a distance is created that emphasizes the looming presence of the unattainable. The work is performed with a sound piece created from the splicing and layering of recited Missed Connections posts, erotic poetry, segments of David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and art auction articles– all forms of solicitation.
